ok since i posted this i have purchased a book called (a druids herbal of sacred tree medicine by ellen evert hopman) which describes all the celtic trees for example...

birch

in all cultures birch is regarded as the goddess tree, use her energy to put yourself in touch with the femanine aspect of the universe and within yourself.
birch helps us to focus on what needs doing and provides us with the energy to do so.

ok well thats a sample of what i found in the book not much i know but im want to give other people a chance

p.s if anyone knows the spiritual or magical properties of teak i would appreciate that.

The first tree that spung to mind when I saw this thread was the yew. It is commonly known as a symbol of eternity because as it grows old, the trunk becomes hollow and new trunks are from around this basis. I have always been fasinated by this tree and what it represents. Though it has been taken up by the christian faith, as most things, they nicked it! Building churches around the already respected yew, was used as another method to bring people to their religion. Excavations also found the base of an ancient yew, from 300AD at the base of the Glastonbury Tor.
The yew tree is seen as a gateway tree. Branches were often placed at a grave to help the dead continue their journey. The yew tree can also be used in protection by placing a branch at home entrances to ward of evil.
I'm sure there is much more to know of the sacred yew but I'll leave it there for now before I begin to ramble and lose your interest...

MAGICAL USES
Used in all protection spells particularly from fire, or lightning. In Ireland it was hung in the house to prevent fire charming, hung around the necks of hounds to increase their speed, and used to keep the dead from rising. It also had the power to protect people and animals from evil spirits. The Irish Druids held it in particular esteem, for its physical healing as well as its magical properties.

I'm fascinated by trees; their beauty and their different energies. Silver birch is a tree I feel very akin to; it's a tree of renewal and new beginnings. It is often the first tree to colonise open ground, so it's invaluable where there has been deforestation or other damage to the environment. Foresters used to hate it and call it the 'forest weed' but they're now beginning to realise its importance. Birch stabilises the ground, its shed leaves nourish the soil, and so it enables other, larger trees to take root. It's a relatively short-lived tree - most only live 100 years. Personally, silver birch teaches me to appreciate that life is short and to live for the present moment, to be fully alive, and that a fresh start is always possible.

Holly, oak and rowan are my other favourites. My fiance reminds me of an oak tree - he's well-built and strong, not to mention very protective of me!
