So, do you have a book in you that you want to publish?

It's just a start and she has to add the ISBN and other stuff yet.

Ook, I'm sure I could find some space for it in the Weston & Worle News if you want some publicity. Wink

Now *that's* an interesting idea Logmadr. Thank you for thinking it, seriously.

Muchly interesting thread.

Like Jaska am a little way into a novel myself. Haven't really thought about publishing yet! Interesting idea though...

Best of luck to Gina. Maybe she'll end up on that list of famous self-published authours one day... Smile

Thankis Aoife. As you know I'm convinced that you will publish one day, either through traditional or non-traditional methods. I wish the same for Jaska and anyone else here of course.

Thanks for this thread, Ook! It is proving to be very interesting.

Just as an aside - we have a book launch in The Willow Tree on Thursday of this week - the author is local (Portishead) and has self-published through a Canadian company.

My daughter was looking at self publishing but couldn't afford it at the time. I'm sure she will eventually. It's definitely the only way to go these days when you can't get an agent without having something published and can't get published without an agent. When I look at all the dross that's in the bookshops and think about all the talent that's going to waste because it's so hard it just seems very wrong

The other alternative is to put your stuff on the internet. I know someone who has a website where she puts her work for all to read. Obviously you don't make any money but it gets your work out there and I'm sure that publishers read such sites looking for new authors. You could even send the link to the publishers so they can have a look when they get a minute

Good luck to all you writers out there and never give up. I wish I had the imagination and dedication to write something myself

The company that Briany Barnes has used is Trafford in Canada - they have supplied all the publicity posters, bookmarks and a webpage dedicated to the published book. They also supply books to retailers, such as Amazon.

If you want to find out more about the book, please follow this link: http://www.trafford.com/07-1731

Thanks Ook, I'll get Jen to look at all this when I see her. She's put her writing on the back shelf for a moment so that she can get her real life sorted but she's getting there and is looking forward to writing again
