| Is there food you'd like to try that you've never had before and why? Are there been any foods you have tried and wished you never touched? I never wanted to try Haggis but I heard a few years ago that there is a vegetarian Haggis available - I wouldn't mind trying that just out of curiosity. I was talking to a colleague the other day about Twinkies (I think that's how it's spelt) and how we'd heard them mentioned in movies and comics and how I'd like to try one. He said that if I liked chemicals mixed with sugar it would be right up my street. I found this surprising because they have been mentioned in many US programmes - are they that bad? Anyhow, it made me think of when I was a meat eater years ago and had always wanted to try a ciorn-dog for the same reasons - I had seen them on TV. The first time I had one I spat it out and threw the rest in the bin - I NEVER throw food away! It was foul! Yuk! What a shame. What are your experiences? | |

| There is a Japanese dish called Una-don. Una is short for unagi (eel) and don is short for donburi (rice bowl) You may like this dish if you like rice. If memory serves correctly slices of eel are marinated in a teriyaki style sauce (soy sauce that has been caramalised and thickened using a small amount of sugar, giving it a slight sweetness) and then grilled until the eel is extremely tender and saturated with the sauce. This would be served on a bowl of white rice. Although I am a veggie now, I remember this to be a very delicious and heartwarming meal. Here is a link to a tiny article about it - you need to scroll down the page to 'Donburi' and you will see a picture of this dish. http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Asia/Japan/Iwate_ken/Fukuoka-977416/Local_Customs-Fukuoka-BR-1.html I've had shark as well but it was so long ago that I forget what it was like. I think it was not very memorable! | |

| I'll vouch for the disgustingness of jellied eels... Yeurk.... Honeycomb (fresh from the bees) may be one of the tastiest tastes I've ever tasted!! I'm a carnivorous sort of eater, I have a list of animals I've eaten and a list of animals I'm yet to eat... Because I've sampled most of the common meats there's not many things on my list of 'things to eat' that I'd be able to find in this country, mostly different types of seafood, but I do want to try cat and dog one day (NOT in this country though! I like cats and respect dogs, but in other cultures they are a food and I would eat it.) Locust, honey-pot ants, meal grubs, tarantula and wichity grubs sound appealing too... (I've eaten horse sausage too) Kangaroo or Reindeer are probably the best meats in my opinion. | |
