| Lo there, do I see my father, Lo there, do I see my mother, my sisters and brothers, Lo there, do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning, Lo, they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever. | |

| It is a very powerful chant but unfortunatly it is the invention of Michael Chricton who wrote it for the 1999 film "The Thirteenth Warrior" starring 'Antonio Banderas' | |

| From other sources I've read, this was recorded in the original Arabic manuscript by Achmed Ibn Rashid Ibn Fadlan himself, after his adventures among the Northmen. Agreed, he didn't have that "Particular" adventure in the "13th Warrior". Though even if I'm wrong, it has a nice sentiment.
I like this one too by Havamal.
Praise no day til it's ended Praise no Wife(husband) til they are buried Praise no Sword til it's tested Praise no ice til it's crossed Praise no ale til it's drunk.
Makes you think my ancestors were a tad pessimistic.
Thanks for all/any input. | |

| Doesn't make you a bad person you know.
The benefits of the Viking life style include : -
Regular outdoor exercise Abundance of bracing sea air Abundance of bracing sea (if the long-ship leaks!) World Travel Souvenir Hunting Feasting All the ale/mead you can Drink (Part of the All-Inclusive holiday package) Burning Paris to the ground (optional)
As the saying goes "The All-father (or the three Norns) rolled the skein of your life long ago. Go and hide in a hole if you wish, but you won't live an instant longer!"
So embrace life and live each breath. That's my philosphy anway.

| Sounds like a pretty decent lifestyle (apart from the optional francophobia)... Especially all that mead and ale! ) I love reading about Norse mythology, some of the legends (although brutal) are amazing! Do you have any more Viking chants/poems/etc.? | |
